 What´s Xcaret Park?

Xcaret is a water park, theme, amusement, eco-archaeological and more, in one place. Due to its privileged location in the Mayan jungle between underground rivers, cenotes and in front of the imposing Caribbean Sea, it has impressive settings which you can enjoy in different activities that make the most of each one. In addition to the amazing natural settings, Xcaret is a park that celebrates the present and the rich history of the past of Mexico, a country recognized for its traditions and folk culture.

What does it mean?

In the Mayan language, Xcaret means small ocean inlet, due to the entrance of the sea that enters the land. Due to its location, it was an attractive point for the Mayans who inhabited the area, who built a port, making Xcaret a great commercial center.

Xelha Natural Aquarium..

It is an ecological park, characterized by a cove in which the groundwater of the Yucatan peninsula is integrated into the Caribbean Sea, forming a space for the coexistence of various marine and freshwater species. It is for this reason that Xel-Há is known for being a natural aquarium.

For the Mayans, the location of Xel-Há contributed to the development of port activities. The area seems to have had two periods of pre-Hispanic occupation: in the late Pre-Classic and the Early Classic. In this last stage, Xel-Há was the coastal settlement with the largest population in the area.

Xelha is home to 70 species of aquatic fauna, such as blonde, parrotfish, surgeon, horse mackerel, sergeant major, chacchi, snapper, macabi, rays, chub, and some other barracuda.
